No.158

Paper-Bag LED Lantern Messages

Japanese name: 紙袋LEDランタンのメッセージ展示

Materials

  • One white paper bag per person
  • One LED light with a secure battery cover per bag
  • Drawing materials and fixing tape

How to play

  1. Lay a white paper bag flat on the table and draw or write a memory from today or a message. Use paper thin enough for light to shine through without cutting holes. Work in a bright place.
  2. Open the finished bag's base so it stands upright. An adult checks that the LED battery cover is secure and the light is not heating up, switches it on, and places it stably at the bottom. Never put a real flame inside.
  3. Place the bags individually on a display table. Lightly tape the base down if a bag tips easily. Do not arrange an overall geometric shape; face each bag so its own picture or words can be read.
  4. Keep enough room lighting to see pathways and lettering. View slowly from the walkway. Only those who wish introduce their own work briefly; listeners do not touch anyone's work without permission.
  5. Restore the room lighting first. Switch off the LEDs with an adult, then collect bags and LEDs separately or take them home as previously agreed.

Ways to adapt

Preschool children: large pictures or colors. Younger primary school children: a picture and one word. Older primary school children and adults: experiment with the appearance of words and light.
