LED Candle Ceremony: A Sample Program
Japanese name: キャンドルセレモニー(LEDで行う進行例)
Materials
- One LED candle per participant and one for the center, with battery covers checked by an adult
- Stable stand, pathway lighting, and clock
- Materials for one short shared activity
How to play
- An adult checks that the LED candles work and their battery covers are secure, then switches them off and gives one to each person. Sit in a circle and place another candle on a central stand. Keep pathways and exits lit throughout.
- Allow about 5 minutes for the opening. Switch on the central LED and have the facilitator explain the theme and closing signal. Do not use real candles or burning torches in this version.
- Continue around the circle: each person switches on their LED after receiving the signal, then nods to the next person. Once all lights are on, look around the circle to finish the opening.
- Spend about 10 minutes on one seated sound activity or short group presentation. Keep LEDs beside you or on a stable surface; do not swing them around.
- Allow about 5 minutes for the closing. Reflect silently on today's memories or gratitude. Invite three to five volunteers to share for about 20 seconds each. Others may participate by quietly looking at the lights.
- Restore the room lighting before everyone switches off their LEDs. Leave in groups while adults count participants and collect and count the equipment. Stop any music to finish.
Ways to adapt
Preschool children can switch on LEDs with an adult. Choose just one shared activity and shorten the gathering to about 15 minutes if needed.
