Talking Light: A One-Sentence Reflection
Japanese name: トーキングライトで一言ふりかえり
Materials
- One LED candle with a sturdy base per circle
How to play
- Sit in circles of four to ten. An adult switches on the LED, which marks whose turn it is to speak. Choose one thing that stayed with you today. Agree not to interrupt speakers with judgments or questions.
- The facilitator holds the LED and shares one concrete event from the day in about 20 seconds. There is no need to put a cheerful spin on it. Gently pass the LED to the next person afterward.
- Whoever receives the LED may share briefly or pass it on without speaking. Preschool children may point or whisper their words to an adult.
- After one round, invite anyone who still wishes to speak to raise a hand. Pass the LED to them in turn, making sure the same people do not dominate the speaking time.
- After these additional turns, the facilitator briefly acknowledges that everyone listened to one another and closes. Do not share anyone's remarks elsewhere without permission. Switch off and put away the LED.
Ways to adapt
Preschool children: point or use one word. Younger primary school children: share one event. Older primary school children and adults: add one observation or insight.
