Create a Team Cheer
Japanese name: 班のエールづくり
Materials
- Paper and pen per group
- A facilitator to keep the beat
How to play
- Form groups of 3–6 in an area away from the fire. Choose a team name, such as a color or animal. Stand or sit where everyone can see; speaking roles are voluntary.
- Create a short call, response, and final pose together. For example, answer “Together!” with “Let's give it a try!” Do not use words that make fun of anyone.
- The facilitator claps four beats while a representative calls, then four more while the group responds. Finish with a shared pose. Change representatives and practise for about one minute.
- Each group performs its cheer once from a presentation spot outside the circle; seated groups may stay where they are. Teach the audience the response, then repeat with everyone joining in.
- After all groups have presented, applaud their ideas and finish. Do not rank volume. Let participants choose a comfortable combination of voice, clapping, and poses.
Ways to adapt
Preschool children: answer an adult’s short call with a pose. Younger primary school children: use one call. Older primary school children and adults: include everyone’s ideas. The whole sequence also works seated.
