No.122
Rock–Paper–Scissors Checkpoint Relay
Japanese name: 関所じゃんけんリレー
Materials
- Checkpoint cones
- Large scoring cards, one per participant
How to play
- Make equal teams in queues, each with an adult checkpoint player 3–5 m ahead. Separate outward and return paths.
- On the signal, only the front player visits the checkpoint for rock–paper–scissors. A winner takes one card, returns and changes with the next player.
- A loss or tie means returning without a card. The next player starts only after the previous player reaches the queue.
- Count cards after 3 minutes. Change checkpoint players and try improving the record in a second round.
Ways to adapt
Preschool children: walk out and back with an adult. Younger primary school children: 3 m each way. Older primary school children: equal team sizes for a scoring contest.
