Rock–Paper–Scissors Train
Japanese name: じゃんけん列車
Materials
- Playing-area markers
How to play
- Everyone begins as a one-person train, walking slowly within the playing area. Do not run or collide.
- Meeting train leaders play rock–paper–scissors. The loser joins behind the winner with about an arm’s length of space.
- Once trains form, only leaders play. The losing train joins the back of the winning train without changing its internal order.
- Finish when there is one train. Introduce its leader and applaud together. Separate and begin a new round.
Ways to adapt
Preschool children: short trains of at most 10 players. Younger primary school children: form one whole-group train. Older primary school children: also predict train lengths.
