Look That Way! (Acchi Muite Hoi)
Japanese name: あっちむいてほい
Materials
- None
How to play
- Face each other and play ordinary rock–paper–scissors. The winner points; the loser chooses a direction to look.
- On “Hoi!” in “Acchi muite hoi,” the pointer indicates up, down, right or left, keeping fingers away from the other person’s face.
- On the same cue, the other player looks in one direction. Do not change after seeing the finger.
- A matching finger and gaze direction earns the pointer 1 point; otherwise no point. Return to rock–paper–scissors each time and stop at 3 points.
Ways to adapt
Preschool children: left and right only. Younger primary school children: all four directions. Older primary school children: keep score and rotate roles.
