No.127
Two-Hand Rock–Paper–Scissors
Japanese name: 両手じゃんけん
Materials
- None
How to play
- Face a partner and practice revealing both hands, then withdrawing one so only one remains.
- On the first cue, show any sign on each hand. The two signs may match or differ, such as rock right and paper left.
- Look at both opposing signs and decide which of yours to keep. Do not change a revealed hand’s shape.
- On the second cue, both withdraw one hand simultaneously. Compare the remaining signs as ordinary rock–paper–scissors. Restart from the beginning on a tie; first to three wins ends the game.
Ways to adapt
Preschool children: practice choosing one of an adult’s two hands. Younger primary school children: slow cues. Older primary school children: compete without discussion.
