Materials

  • A set of 9 item cards per person, plus 1 shared set per group
  • Paper and pens

How to play

  1. Use the theme “What matters for a gathering everyone can join?” Prepare nine cards: clear explanations, a choice of roles, breaks, low cost, an easy-to-reach venue, equipment, enjoyable activities, punctuality and listening to opinions.
  2. Individually arrange the cards by importance in five rows of 1, 2, 3, 2 and 1 cards from top to bottom. Cards in the same row may be equally important. After 3 minutes, explain the top choice.
  3. Use the shared set to agree on one group arrangement. Do not use majority voting or average rankings; listen to reasons for items where opinions differ.
  4. After 10 minutes, do not force agreement. Keep the agreed parts and note the remaining differences.
  5. Groups present their top items and reasons. Anyone who changed their ranking shares what prompted the change, then the activity ends.

Ways to adapt

Older primary: use five cards arranged 1–3–1. This activity is not intended for preschool groups.
