No.319
Kuti-Kuti
Japanese name: クティクティ
Materials
- 2 flat kuti-kuti pieces that spring when flicked
- A large tray to contain the pieces
How to play
- Choose one piece each and place them facing one another in the tray, 10–15 cm apart. Agree on colours and who starts.
- Practise pressing and releasing the edge with a finger to make a small springing movement. Never strike the table hard or aim at people.
- Alternate one flick each, trying to land your piece on top of the opponent’s. Simply sliding it or placing it by hand is invalid.
- After a miss, leave the piece where it landed until its next turn. If it leaves the tray, return it just inside the point where it went out, then change turns.
- Landing on the other piece ends the game. Do not keep the opponent’s piece. Reset the positions, change who starts and play about three games.
Ways to adapt
Primary school: start close together. Older primary: increase the starting distance.
