B
Use a light stick with a rounded tip.
C
Toss gently underarm.
D
Keep everyone out of the throwing area.

Materials

  • A wide-mouthed, stable container
  • 5 lightweight foam rods with rounded tips
  • A throwing-line marker

How to play

  1. Set the container on the floor and mark a throwing line 1–2 m away. Keep the space behind the container clear of people.
  2. Each player has five rods to throw one at a time from behind the line, aiming into the opening. Throw gently underarm, never forcefully at face height.
  3. A rod that enters and stays in the container scores one point. A rod bouncing out, or thrown while stepping over the line, scores nothing.
  4. Nobody retrieves while anyone is throwing. On the signal, collect with an adult and give the next player the same number of rods.
  5. Play two turns per person and total the points. Leave ties as ties. Offer a closer line to anyone finding it difficult, letting them choose a distance for another attempt.

Ways to adapt

Preschool: place rods in from close by. Younger primary: 1 m. Older primary and adults: 2 m.
