Balloon Volleyball
Japanese name: 風船バレー
Materials
- One balloon, spares and an air pump
- A low net with stable supports
- Floor-marking tape
- A score sheet
How to play
- Mark a court divided by a low net. Play 2 against 2 or 3 against 3, with no-entry space around the supports.
- Choose the first server and gently hit the balloon from below over the net. Alternate serving teams after every point.
- Do not catch it. Return it over the net within three team touches. The same player may touch it at most twice consecutively; involve teammates.
- Your opponents gain 1 point if it lands on your floor, is hit out, passes under the net or receives a fourth touch. Do not touch the net or opponents.
- Stop at 5 points or after 5 minutes. At the time limit, the higher score wins; equal scores are a draw. Change ends and servers and play again.
Ways to adapt
Preschool children: cooperate with an adult to keep it up. Younger primary school children: allow up to 5 team touches. Older primary school children: use the three-touch rule.
