Chapter 2 · Indoor Games

No.39

Find the Leader

Japanese name: リーダーを探せ

Materials

  • None

How to play

  1. Sit in a circle and choose one detective, who waits elsewhere within an adult’s sight.
  2. The remaining players secretly choose a leader. The leader starts a seated action, such as waving or gently tapping knees, and everyone copies.
  3. Bring the detective to the center. The leader occasionally changes the action while everyone follows naturally. The detective watches movements and gaze.
  4. The detective may make up to 3 guesses. Reveal the leader when a guess is correct or 1 minute passes, then choose both a new detective and a new leader.

Ways to adapt

Preschool children: practice with the leader wearing a hat. Younger primary school children: about 8 players. Older primary school children: two detectives may search together.
