How to play

  1. Use tape to mark a simple large outline, such as a circle. Mark one evenly spaced placement spot per person. Keep a walkway clear around the outside and practise with the room lights on.
  2. Explain that everyone will help make one shape. Assign each person one LED and a placement spot. An adult checks the battery covers and switches the LEDs on.
  3. On the facilitator's signal, go one at a time, place your LED on its mark, and return to your seat by the outside walkway. Participants who find walking difficult may ask an adult to place their LED at their chosen spot.
  4. Once all LEDs are in position, dim the room only enough that the walkway and feet remain visible. View the completed shape from your seats and notice how everyone's light connects with the others.
  5. Restore the room lights before collecting anything. The facilitator calls people in turn to retrieve and switch off their LEDs using the same walkway. Restore the lighting before making any layout changes too.

Ways to adapt

Preschool children: place the light with an adult. Younger primary school children: follow a circular outline. Older primary school children and adults: plan the layout together.
