Ground Golf: An Introduction
Japanese name: グラウンドゴルフ入門
Materials
- Dedicated Ground Golf clubs and balls
- Hole posts
- Start mats
- Score sheets
How to play
- An adult specifies the hitting direction and access boundaries. Begin with one hole, agree on turn order and wait behind the active player.
- Hit from the start mat, aiming to stop the ball inside the hole post. Avoid large practice swings.
- Play subsequent strokes from where the ball rests. Wait until the previous player has hit and moved clear before the next stroke.
- A ball stopped inside the post is a “tomari”; record the strokes. For an out-of-course ball, add 1 stroke and return it to a playable place no closer to the hole.
- Compare total strokes over 3–4 holes. Explain that the official scoring method subtracts 3 strokes from the total for a hole-in-one.
Ways to adapt
Younger primary school children: short distances. Upper primary and adults: progress to a regular course.
