Chapter 3 · Ball Games and Target Games

No.79

Ring Toss

Japanese name: 輪投げ

Materials

  • A stable ring-toss target stand
  • 3–9 soft rings
  • A throwing line

How to play

  1. Set the target stand securely and mark a throwing line about 1–2 m away. Give everyone the same number of rings.
  2. Take turns throwing from behind the line toward the target pegs. Stay behind the line until rings stop moving.
  3. After all your throws, count rings settled around pegs. In this introductory format, each ring scores 1 point.
  4. Check that nobody is throwing before collecting rings and changing players.
  5. Give everyone two turns and compare total points. Later, try scoring by the target stand’s numbers.

Ways to adapt

Preschool children: close range. Older primary school children: score by the numbers on the stand.
