Micro Hike
Japanese name: ミクロハイク
Materials
- A magnifying glass
- A short string (optional)
How to play
- An adult chooses a small observation spot free from dangerous insects and plants, and sets the viewing boundary.
- Lay a short string on the ground and imagine the space beside it as a tiny creature’s trail. Without string, choose one small spot.
- Stand or sit still and use a magnifying glass to examine soil, leaves and bark. Never walk while looking through the glass.
- Name interesting shapes or movements and show the group. Observe creatures where they are rather than catching them.
- End after about 10 minutes and collect every string. Share one discovery that surprised you most.
Ways to adapt
Preschool children: take turns with an adult. Older primary school children: briefly sketch discoveries.
