Chapter 1 · Outdoor Games

No.33

Nature Bingo

Japanese name: 自然ビンゴ

Materials

  • 3 × 3 bingo sheets
  • Writing tools
  • Firm writing boards

How to play

  1. An adult checks the actual site and prepares nine prompts, such as a round leaf, birdsong or something moving in the wind.
  2. Give each group a bingo sheet and agree on the boundary, return time and things not to touch. Preschool children walk with an adult.
  3. Stay together and mark squares when you find matching objects or phenomena. Collecting them is unnecessary.
  4. Complete a horizontal, vertical or diagonal line for bingo. You may keep looking afterward, but everyone must return on time.
  5. Share one discovery each, check the headcount and finish. You need not rank groups by speed or number of completed lines.

Ways to adapt

Preschool children: a 2 × 2 sheet. Older primary school children: 3 × 3 to 4 × 4 sheets.
