No.30

Nature Color Match

Japanese name: 自然の色合わせ

Materials

  • Several color cards
  • Recording paper (optional)

How to play

  1. An adult sets a safe activity area and gives one color card to each group of 2–4.
  2. Find a similar color in nature. Fallen leaves may be picked up, but do not pick growing plants.
  3. Hold the card near the object and compare matching and slightly different shades. Stay together as you walk.
  4. Regroup after 3–5 minutes and share the places or objects found. Do not rank groups by who found a match first.
  5. Exchange cards and search again. Discuss the range of colors, then return collected objects.

Ways to adapt

Preschool children: use one color. Older primary school children: look for different shades of the same color.
