One-Minute Clock

Japanese name: 1分時計

Materials

  • A clock showing seconds, visible only to the facilitator

How to play

  1. Only the facilitator may see the clock. Players sit or take a comfortable position and confirm the target duration.
  2. From “Start!”, estimate 1 minute internally. Eyes may stay open, but do not look at nearby clocks or screens.
  3. Quietly raise one hand when you think 1 minute has passed and wait. Do not count aloud or cue others.
  4. The facilitator notes approximate hand-raising times. End when the final person raises a hand or after 90 seconds.
  5. Check who was close to 60 seconds. Volunteers may share counting methods. Rest, repeat and compare with your own previous result.

Ways to adapt

Preschool children: estimate 10 seconds. Younger primary school children: 30 seconds. Older primary school children: 60 seconds.
