Chapter 3 · Ball Games and Target Games

No.81

Paper-Ball Target Toss

Japanese name: 紙玉の的あて

Materials

  • Three soft paper balls
  • A large paper or cardboard target
  • Tape to secure the target
  • A throwing line

How to play

  1. An adult fixes the target safely and marks a throwing line 1–3 m away. Keep people away from behind and beside the target.
  2. Take turns with three paper balls each. Do not put stones or other hard objects inside them.
  3. Each target hit scores 1 point. With numbered targets, you may instead add the numbers hit.
  4. After three throws, make sure everyone has stopped throwing before retrieving balls for the next player.
  5. Finish after two turns each. You may vary target size or height and aim for a shared hit total.

Ways to adapt

Preschool children: large targets. Older primary school children: give differently sized targets different scores.
