Photo Orienteering
Japanese name: フォトオリエンテーリング
Materials
- A simple site map
- 5–10 photographs showing part of a location
- Answer sheets and writing tools
- A clock
How to play
- An adult photographs safe places within the site and prepares an answer key. Mark off-limits or confusing areas on the map.
- Each group checks its photos, simple map and return time. Assign map-reading, recording and timekeeping roles.
- Walk together to locate the photographed objects. Do not split up or leave the site.
- Record each location or number on the answer sheet. Skip unclear photos rather than entering an unsafe or unsuitable place.
- Return to the base by the deadline and hand in the sheet with everyone present. Compare correct answers and share scenery you noticed.
Ways to adapt
Younger primary school children: 5 locations with an adult accompanying. Older primary school children: infer locations from partial photographs.
