Picture-Card Bingo

Japanese name: 絵カードビンゴ

Materials

  • One 3 × 3 bingo grid per person
  • Picture cards featuring at least nine different images, or drawing pens
  • Pens for marking the grids

How to play

  1. Fill the nine squares of your grid with pictures chosen from the same shared selection. Do not repeat a picture within your own grid.
  2. The facilitator shuffles the picture cards, draws them one by one, and shows each card. Circle the matching square if it appears on your grid.
  3. Call “Bingo!” when three circled squares form a vertical, horizontal, or diagonal line. The facilitator checks them against the cards already drawn.
  4. Continue after the first bingo so everyone has a chance. Finish when all pictures have been called.

Ways to adapt

Preschool children: use a 2 × 2 grid. Younger primary school children: use 3 × 3. Older primary school children: try words or subject vocabulary. Keep the drawn cards on display.
