Tabletop Hockey
Japanese name: 卓上ホッケー
Materials
- A rimmed tabletop hockey board with a goal at each end
- Two paddles
- One large, lightweight puck
- Tape for a center line and a score sheet
How to play
- Mark the board’s center. One player sits or stands at each end, checks their goal and keeps the paddle on the surface. Keep the free hand away from the rim.
- Choose who starts and gently play from the center. Slide the puck with the paddle toward the opponent’s goal.
- Keep your paddle on your half; do not lift it to strike downward. Do not stop the puck by hand or push the other paddle.
- A puck completely inside the goal scores 1 point. The conceding player restarts from the center. If it leaves the board, an adult retrieves it and the player who did not touch it last restarts.
- Stop at 3 points or after 5 minutes. At the time limit, higher score wins; equal scores are a draw. Rotate to the next pair.
Ways to adapt
Preschool children: slowly pass a puck with an adult. Younger primary school children: main rules. Older primary school children: swap ends and play two games.
