Obwisana: Pass Together
Japanese name: オブウィサナ(みんなで同時に回す)
Materials
- 1 small beanbag or fabric bag per person
How to play
- Sit in a circle on the floor or around a table, each with a beanbag in front of you. An adult keeps a steady “one, two, one, two” beat.
- Practise without bags: on one, move your hand in front of yourself; on two, move it in front of your right-hand neighbour. Check that everyone passes in the same direction.
- Now, on one, everyone picks up the bag in front of them. On two, place it in front of your right-hand neighbour. On the next one, pick up the new bag arriving from your left.
- Repeat these simultaneous exchanges. If they jam, stop together, reset to one bag per player and restart slowly. Never throw bags at people or push them into hands.
- Ten coordinated passes in a row are a success. Try reversing direction or change the beat leader, and finish after about 5 minutes.
Ways to adapt
Preschool: an adult sits alongside; move a large fabric bag slowly. Younger primary: one direction only. Older primary: change direction after a clear signal.
