No.314

Passa Anel: The Secret Token

Japanese name: パッサ・アネル(ひみつの預け物)

Materials

  • 1 flat cardboard token with rounded edges, small enough to hide in a hand

How to play

  1. Choose a passer. Everyone else sits in a row, holding palms together to make a small pocket over their lap.
  2. The passer hides the token between their palms and visits each player, slipping their hands between that player’s joined hands. Secretly leave the token with one person.
  3. The holder and everyone else keep their hands closed in the same way. The passer finishes visiting the whole row, then shows their empty hands.
  4. The passer asks someone other than the holder, “Who has it?” That person guesses one player. If wrong, ask another person; continue until someone guesses correctly.
  5. The holder reveals the token to end the round. The correct guesser becomes the next passer. Enjoy about five rounds.

Ways to adapt

Preschool: an adult manages a fabric token too large to swallow and supports a small group. Younger primary: slow each visit so hand movements and expressions are easier to follow.
