Lagori: An Adapted Introduction
Japanese name: ラグーリ(体験版)
Materials
- 7 lightweight, stackable foam discs
- 1 soft sponge ball
- Line markers
- A timer for one-minute rounds
How to play
- Form equal teams of attackers and defenders. Stack seven discs in the centre. Mark a throwing line about 3 m away and agree on the playing boundary.
- Attackers take turns making up to three underarm throws each to knock down the stack. If nobody succeeds, restack the discs and swap team roles.
- Once the stack falls, attackers try to rebuild it. Defenders retrieve the ball and use low throws to try to hit attackers below the knees.
- If any attacker is legally hit or goes out of bounds, end the attack and swap roles. A throw at the head or upper body is invalid: stop and review safe throwing together.
- Rebuilding all seven discs before anyone is hit scores one point, then teams swap roles. Also swap after 1 minute without rebuilding. Each team attacks three times; compare totals. Do not wrestle for objects or physically obstruct others.
Ways to adapt
Younger primary: cooperative restacking without defenders. Older primary and adults: use attacking and defending teams.
