Catch-and-Pass Volleyball
Japanese name: キャッチしてつなぐバレーボール
Materials
- A soft, light ball
- A low net
- Court markings
How to play
- Place three players on each side of a net. Confirm standing positions and movement limits. Do not touch or go under the net.
- Start with a gentle two-handed throw to an easy catching height. Receivers may let it bounce once before catching.
- Pass between teammates so all three touch the ball once; the third player returns it over the net with both hands.
- A second bounce, out-of-bounds or failure to clear the net gives the opponents 1 point. The conceding team restarts gently.
- Stop at 5 points or after 5 minutes. Change players and positions and discuss which throws were easy to catch.
Ways to adapt
Younger primary school children: no net. Older primary school children: progress to catching without a bounce.
