Chapter 11 · Hand Games and Rhythm

No.223

Ear-and-Nose Hand Swap

Japanese name: 耳と鼻のタッチ入れ替え

Materials

  • None

How to play

  1. Sit comfortably. Lightly touch the nose tip with the right hand. Cross the left arm over it to touch the right ear. Do not pinch or pull.
  2. Release both hands and rest them on the knees. Reverse the combination: left hand to nose, right hand to left ear.
  3. Check each arrangement slowly once. Use a mirror or demonstration at first if helpful.
  4. On each cue, return to the knees and make the opposite arrangement. Once comfortable, add one clap during the return before changing positions.
  5. Finish after about five attempts per side and rest the hands. If desired, invite another demonstrator, agree on a repetition target together, and try again.

Ways to adapt

Younger primary school children: rest on the knees between positions. Older primary school children: add the clap.
