Chapter 9 · Drama and Teamwork

No.189

Create a Shared Scene

Japanese name: みんなで一枚の場面

Materials

  • No special equipment is needed.

How to play

  1. Each group chooses a place, such as a park or shop. Use body poses to represent its people or objects and build one still scene.
  2. The first person poses as something, such as a tree. Each next person chooses a fitting person or object and adds a pose at a separate spot.
  3. Join one at a time until everyone has contributed. Do not climb onto people, lean your weight on them, or force hand-holding. A director role is also welcome.
  4. Hold the completed scene for about five seconds while another group guesses the setting. After the answer is found, each participant explains what they represented.
  5. Choose another setting and build again. Change who starts, and build on the poses already present.

Ways to adapt

Preschool children and younger primary school children: take one role each in pretend play with an adult. Older primary school children: join without discussion, then compare meanings afterward.
