Chapter 2 · Indoor Games

No.45

Who Is Missing?

Japanese name: いない仲間はだれ

Materials

  • A large screen or safe waiting area

How to play

  1. Sit in a circle and first take turns saying the name you wish to be called. Choose one detective, who turns away.
  2. The facilitator leads one player behind a screen where an adult can still see them. Others change places in the circle.
  3. The detective turns back and has up to 1 minute to identify who is missing. If needed, others may give a name clue approved by the hidden player.
  4. The hidden player returns when guessed or after 1 minute, and everyone welcomes them. Change both detective and hidden player, and finish after several rounds.

Ways to adapt

Preschool children: guess which of three dolls is missing. Younger primary school children: about 5 players. Older primary school children: also change seating positions.
