Chapter 6 · Icebreakers

No.132

Stack the Names

Japanese name: 名前のつみき

Materials

  • Name cards if needed

How to play

  1. Form a circle of 4–8 and share the names you wish to be called. Name cards may be used as reminders.
  2. The first says “I’m Sam.” The next names that person, then themselves: “Next to Sam, I’m Alex.”
  3. Each next player repeats all earlier names in order and adds their own. Anyone may immediately help if needed.
  4. After the last player, say all names once more in order and applaud. Change the starting point for a second round.

Ways to adapt

Preschool children: remember only the immediately preceding person. Younger primary school children: four players. Older primary school children: 6–8. Showing a name card is an alternative to saying it.
