No.46
Guess the Sound
Japanese name: 音あてクイズ
Materials
- 3–5 types of sound-making objects, such as a bell, castanets or paper
- A screen
- Photographs of the possible answers
How to play
- Show everyone the objects and briefly listen to each sound. Keep the volume low enough for ordinary conversation.
- An adult makes one sound behind a screen. Seated players listen and identify it; there is no need to close their eyes.
- On the signal, point to a candidate photograph or name the object. The adult reveals it and repeats the sound in the same way.
- After 3–5 questions, volunteers may make sounds alongside an adult. Finish by listening to one favorite sound.
Ways to adapt
Preschool children: two sound choices. Younger primary school children: 3–5 choices. Older primary school children: make different sounds with the same object.
