How to play
- For this adapted introduction, mark a 3 m-wide, 6 m-deep area. Place the white target ball on a cross 3 m beyond the throwing line. Red and blue each have six balls.
- The first side rolls one ball, then the other rolls one. Thereafter, the side whose nearest ball is farther from the white ball plays next. At equal distance, the side that did not just play takes the turn.
- Balls may move an opponent’s ball or the white ball. Agree on teammates’ turn order. When one side has no balls left, the other plays its remaining balls.
- Colored balls outside the area are invalid. If the white ball goes out, collect all balls and replay the end with the same starting side. Wait until all balls stop before going forward.
- After 12 balls, score each ball closer to white than the opponent’s nearest. If both sides have equally nearest balls, each scores the number of its balls at that distance. If one side has no valid balls, the other scores its valid-ball total; if both have none, score zero.
- Collect balls, replace white on the cross and alternate the starting side. Compare totals over four ends; equal totals are a draw.
Ways to adapt
Preschool children: move the throwing line closer and compare distances with an adult.
