Find Faces in Trees
Japanese name: 木の顔探し
Materials
- Paper
- Crayons or pencils
- A firm writing board
How to play
- An adult indicates which trees and places may be observed. Do not climb or break branches.
- Walk in groups of 2–4 and find bark patterns or knots that look like faces. Leaf patterns are also fine.
- Sketch a face and identify its eyes and mouth. Imagine the face’s mood.
- Show others which part of which tree you found. Different people may see different faces in the same place.
- Finish after everyone shares one face. Collect the tools and leave without attaching anything to the trees.
Ways to adapt
Preschool children: point out features together with an adult. Older primary school children: invent a story from the expression.
