Cup-to-Cup Water Relay

Japanese name: コップで水送り

Materials

  • One cup per person
  • A container with a little clean water
  • An empty collecting container
  • Water-level marks

How to play

  1. Stand in a row with water beside the first player and an empty collecting container beside the last. Everyone holds a cup.
  2. The first player scoops a little water and pours into the next cup. Keep cups close and below chest height.
  3. Pass along the row and pour into the end container. The first player continues scooping.
  4. Spills do not end play. Do not drink, splash others or throw cups.
  5. Stop after 1 minute and compare water levels using the marks. Change roles, repeat once and clean equipment and wet surfaces.

Ways to adapt

Preschool children: two players and little water. Older primary school children: increase group size.
