No.331
Cornhole
Japanese name: コーンホール
Materials
- 2 sloped cornhole boards with holes
- 4 purpose-made bags in each of two colours
- Throwing-line markers and a scoreboard
How to play
- Prepare four bags of each colour and place the boards facing each other. Shorten the distance for children. Play singles, or doubles with one member of each team at each end.
- From beside a board, alternate underarm throws towards the opposite board, staying behind the front-edge line. Leave all bags in place until all eight have been thrown.
- A bag through the hole scores three; a bag remaining on the board scores one. A bag touching the ground, or bouncing onto the board from the ground, scores zero.
- Compare the two totals. Only the higher side scores the difference: seven against four adds three points. Equal totals score zero for both.
- The scoring side throws first next round. In doubles, the pair at the opposite end now throw. At a completed round, reaching at least 21 total points wins. Change throwing positions for another game.
Ways to adapt
Preschool: with a caregiver, cooperatively aim at one board from nearby. Younger primary: optionally play first to seven. Regulation adult boards are about 8.23 m apart between front edges.
