C
Aim at the bucket.

Materials

  • 3 lightweight plastic containers without sharp edges
  • 1 large bucket placed upside down
  • 1 soft ball
  • Markers for two intersecting lines

How to play

  1. Divide the space into four sections with intersecting lines. Put an upside-down bucket at the centre and stack the three containers on it. Four players take one section each: one thrower and three defenders.
  2. From their section, the thrower has up to three underarm throws to knock down the stack. If all three miss, rotate roles.
  3. After a successful hit, the thrower retrieves and restacks the containers on the bucket. Defenders retrieve the ball, but may touch it only when it is in their own section.
  4. Defenders pass the ball between them, then roll it at the central bucket. Never aim at a person. The thrower wins by completing the stack first; the defenders win if the ball hits the bucket first.
  5. After every contest, rotate players so a new person throws and the others take their next roles. Finish when everyone has been thrower once and defender three times.

Ways to adapt

Preschool: stack with a caregiver while an adult rolls slowly. Younger primary: use a large ball. Older primary: cooperate through passes between sections.
