Materials
- A sjoelen board with four scoring gates
- 30 matching wooden discs
- A score sheet
How to play
- Place the board on a stable table. One player stands or sits at its near end with 30 discs. Confirm the gate values from left to right: two, three, four and one.
- Slide discs one at a time along the board towards the gates. Do not lift the board or reach forward to push a disc through.
- After all 30, the first pass ends. Leave discs fully through the gates in their compartments. Collect only unsuccessful discs for a second pass, then repeat for a third.
- After the third pass, score the discs. Each complete set of one disc in all four compartments scores 20 points. Remaining discs score their compartment values individually.
- One complete set plus one extra disc in the four-point compartment, for example, scores 24. Record it, clear the board and change players. Give everyone equal turns before comparing scores.
Ways to adapt
Preschool: one supported pass with ten discs and a caregiver. Younger primary: calculate together. Adjust the table height for seated players and wheelchair users.
