Chapter 17 · World Games with Equipment

No.323

Biseokchigi: Low-Target Knockdown Practice

Japanese name: ピソクチギ(低い的倒し体験)

Materials

  • 5 soft foam blocks that stand upright
  • 5 lightweight foam plates
  • Markers for two lines
  • A 10-minute timer

How to play

  1. Mark two lines about 2 m apart and stand five targets on one line. Use soft equipment with rounded edges instead of the traditional flat stones.
  2. From the other line, the attacking player or team sends foam plates low to knock down targets. Allow five attempts in total. Everyone else waits behind the throwing area.
  3. Knocking down all five completes that stage. Mark progress, then swap attack and defence regardless of success. On the next turn, reset five targets and retry any unfinished stage.
  4. For stage two, balance a plate on your palm, walk to the targets and drop it from low down to knock one over. Allow five attempts. Dropping it on the way uses up that attempt.
  5. Finish when both sides complete both stages or after 10 minutes, giving equal numbers of turns. Compare completed stages. Retrieve targets and plates only once everyone has stopped.

Ways to adapt

Younger primary: low throws. Older primary and adults: palm-carrying stage.
