No.165

Fish, Bird, Tree

Japanese name: 魚 鳥 木

Materials

  • Category cards labeled Fish, Bird, and Tree

How to play

  1. Sit in a circle and choose a facilitator. Check examples: salmon is a fish, a sparrow is a bird, and a cherry tree is a tree.
  2. The facilitator points to one person and calls “fish,” “bird,” or “tree.” That person names one example in the category.
  3. Do not repeat a name already used in that round. Ask others for hints if you cannot think of one.
  4. After everyone has answered once, change the facilitator and clear the used-name list. Finish after about three circuits. Once confident, aim to answer within five seconds.

Ways to adapt

Preschool children: use just animals and food. Younger primary school children may consult an illustrated guide. Older primary school children can try all three categories: fish, birds, and trees.
