No.103
Pass the Hoop
Japanese name: フープ送り
Materials
- One hoop large enough to pass through comfortably
How to play
- First practice stepping through the hoop individually. Then stand in a line, lightly hold hands and place the hoop over the first player’s arm.
- On the signal, pass head and feet through in turn, moving the hoop toward the joined hands. Neighbors help by moving their bodies.
- Sending it to the end while holding hands is success. Release hands whenever the position feels uncomfortable.
- If hands separate, pause, reconnect there and continue. There is no need to restart from the beginning.
- Once it reaches the end, swap the front and back players. Pass in the opposite direction too, finishing when everyone has tried.
Ways to adapt
Preschool children: no hand-holding. Older primary school children: still avoid strained postures.
