Hand Cricket: An Adapted Introduction
Japanese name: ハンドクリケット(体験版)
Materials
- A score sheet if needed
- Writing materials
How to play
- Choose a batter and bowler. Use one hand to show one to five fingers, representing 1–5. This version uses neither a closed-fist zero nor a special six, and changes batters after one out.
- On a shared “Ready, go!”, both show their fingers at once. Do not change after seeing the other hand. Hold still until both numbers are clear.
- If the numbers differ, add the batter’s number to their score. Do not add the bowler’s number. Say the new total aloud.
- Matching numbers put the batter out. Record the total and swap roles. The second batter starts at zero and scores in the same way.
- The second batter wins as soon as their total exceeds the target. If out before then, the first batter wins; equal totals are a draw. When playing three games, alternate who bats first.
Ways to adapt
Younger primary: scoring chips or recording help. Older primary and adults: a three-out game.
