No.99
Overhead-and-Side Ball Pass
Japanese name: ボール送り
Materials
- One lightweight ball per group
How to play
- Stand in a queue, spaced so handovers do not require stretching. The front player holds the ball.
- On the signal, pass it overhead to the person behind and continue to the back. Do not throw; release only when the receiver has it.
- At the back, return it forward beside the body. If overhead passing is difficult, use side passes both ways.
- On a drop, everyone stops and retrieves it from that spot. Never run backward to collect it.
- Returning to the front is success. Swap front and back players and finish after three complete trips out and back.
Ways to adapt
Preschool children: side passes. Older primary school children: alternate overhead and side passing.
