KanJam: An Introduction

Japanese name: カンジャム(入門)

Materials

How to play

  1. Form two teams. Place the goals facing each other at a shortened, comfortable throwing distance. One member of each team stands behind each goal, facing their partner at the other end.
  2. Throw from behind your goal towards your partner’s goal. Your partner may redirect the disc with one hand contact only. No catching, carrying or repeated touches.
  3. A deflection hitting the outside scores one; a direct outside hit without a deflection scores two; a deflection into the goal scores three. Ground contact before a goal hit scores zero.
  4. A disc entering directly through the front slot or top, without a partner’s touch, wins immediately. Otherwise swap throwing and redirecting roles and give both teams equal turns.
  5. In this introduction, compare totals after five turns each. For a tie, add one turn per team. Change partners next game. Stop all throws before retrieval.

Ways to adapt

Younger primary: an instructor redirects. Not intended for preschool. This introduction shortens the regulation 50-foot spacing and replaces the exact-21 system with five-turn totals.
