Materials

  • 5–8 parallel lines spaced 50–100 cm apart

How to play

  1. Mark parallel lines to make several strip-shaped zones. Choose 1–2 taggers; taggers and runners begin in different zones.
  2. Everyone makes small two-footed jumps into an adjacent zone. Leave enough room sideways and avoid body contact.
  3. A runner in the same zone as a tagger at the same time is caught. There is no hand contact: the tagger calls the runner’s name.
  4. Caught players rest outside for 3 seconds, then rejoin in a zone without a tagger. Change taggers after each 30-second round.
  5. Finish when everyone has been a tagger. Reflect on noticing the tagger and choosing an empty zone rather than simply moving fast.

Ways to adapt

Preschool children: narrow the gaps and allow walking. Older primary school children: predict the tagger’s movement before choosing a zone.
