Materials

  • A foam-cylinder target that tips over easily
  • 1 soft, flat foam throwing piece per person
  • Line markers
  • A timer

How to play

  1. Stand the target in a small circle and mark a throwing line 3 m away. Choose one tagger; the others are throwers. Decide the throwing order.
  2. One at a time, throw the foam piece underarm from behind the line to knock down the target. Everyone, including the tagger, stays outside the throwing lane. Nobody retrieves a piece while it is in flight.
  3. After it lands, the facilitator signals for that thrower alone to retrieve their piece. If the target fell, the tagger must first stand it up inside the circle.
  4. Only while the target is upright may the tagger gently tag the retrieving player. Returning behind the line with the piece is safe. If tagged, everyone stops; swap taggers and reset behind the line.
  5. Allow at most 20 seconds for each retrieval. If the player has not returned, stop everyone, collect the piece and move to the next thrower. After 2 minutes, give the tagger role to someone who has not tried it. Finish once everyone has been tagger.

Ways to adapt

Younger primary: walking. Older primary and adults: brisk walking.
