Materials

  • One empty can with sharp edges protected, or a soft substitute marker
  • A circle marking where the can goes

How to play

  1. Agree on the hiding area and return signal. Mark a waiting area a few meters from the can’s circle.
  2. Choose one seeker. Another player gently kicks the can toward an empty area. Everyone else hides while the seeker returns it to the circle.
  3. On finding someone, the seeker calls their name and touches the can without stepping on it. The named player goes to the waiting area.
  4. If an uncaught player kicks the can first, all captured players are freed. The seeker returns the can and play resumes.
  5. End when everyone is caught or 3 minutes have passed. Call everyone together and check the headcount. Give the first player caught, or another agreed player, the seeker role.

Ways to adapt

Younger primary school children: an adult is the seeker. Older primary school children: two seekers may be used.
