Materials

How to play

  1. Two adults turn the rope. Agree on jumper order and entry/exit sides. Walk the figure-eight route first without a rope.
  2. Enter the middle one at a time, jump once and leave on the opposite side. Go around the outside of the turner to join the opposite queue.
  3. Stop the rope for anyone needing a stationary start. Waiting players stay beyond its reach.
  4. On a catch, turners stop. Restart only when everyone is safely positioned; nobody is eliminated for a miss.
  5. Count successes for 1 minute. Rest, change adult turners or jumper order and work toward a shared target.

Ways to adapt

Younger primary school children: practice entry and exit with the rope stopped. Older primary school children: try continuous jumping.
