Diagram key
- A
- Take turns placing 3 pieces each.
- B
- After placement, move to an empty point.
- C
- Win with 3 in a straight line.
Materials
- A paper board with seven triangular playing points
- 3 large counters in each of two colours
How to play
- Use seven points: the three triangle vertices, three side midpoints and centre. Draw the outer triangle, a line from the top vertex to the base midpoint, and a line joining the left and right side midpoints.
- Take three counters each in different colours. Choose who starts and alternate placing one on an empty point. Never place two on one point.
- After all six are placed, alternate moving one counter along a line to an adjacent empty point. Do not capture or remove opposing counters.
- You may also jump straight over one adjacent counter to an empty point immediately beyond it. Jump either colour; the jumped counter remains on the board.
- Three of your counters along one drawn straight line win. This version also allows a win during placement. The same position three times is a draw. Change who starts for a rematch.
Ways to adapt
Preschool: with a caregiver, practise placing three matching counters on a line. Younger primary: no jumps. Older primary: allow jumps. State the chosen conditions before starting.
